A good border holds that off for hours or days. The right barrier stops that slide. A new box format isn’t always necessary. We often add a barrier to a familiar standard shipping box, so your packers can carry on packing the way they already do. These are the jobs moisture resistant cardboard boxes handle best:

Choosing the Board, Barrier and Build That Fit Your Product, Not Paying for Strength You Won’t Use

Start with the board. Single wall suits light and medium goods. Flute size changes how a box behaves when it’s damp, and our flute type guide explains each profile. Heavy cartons need extra support. Our double wall boxes stay stiffer when conditions turn damp. Then comes the barrier. A barrier coating is a thin water-based layer rolled onto the surface. Film lamination bonds on a plastic layer for wetter conditions. Wax suits produce ice. Splash protection isn’t enough for every product. Some need a low moisture vapour transmission rate, a figure that shows how much water vapour gets through a material over time. We’ll say honestly if your product needs that level. Liners matter too. Wet strength board uses paper made to hold its fibres together when damp. It’s worth asking if your boxes will meet splashes.

A Cornish smokehouse ships fish overnight with ice packs. Melt water used to soften the base of its plain cartons by morning. After a switch to wax-coated boxes, the bases arrived firm, and the complaints stopped. Very heavy pallet loads are a different job. Print and Finish That Still Looks Sharp After the Rain, the Ice and the Long Haul

Water-based inks hold up well on coated board. Kraft brown gives a natural look, and white top liner gives brighter colours. A matt or gloss varnish adds scuff protection. Our printing and finishing range covers each of these. Handling symbols are worth adding too. A keep dry mark or a this way up arrow helps warehouse staff and couriers treat the box properly. We print them in the same run as your artwork.

Small brands can start with a sample. If it holds, the spec is right. Trade buyers obtain repeat orders constructed to one spec, delivered on pallets to a UK address. If your range mixes light and heavy products, our custom multi wall boxes allow you to set one wall type per product. Sizes run from small package boxes to extensive export cartons. For small, light articles that oppose damp, a painted corrugated mailer box works nicely. Each order is cut and covered to your drawing. Will a painted box hold its shape if one side gains wet?

The border slows water from spreading via the board, so the dry side supports the box. A soaked base is the real risk. If your boxes sit on wet floors, a heavier border is the safer pick.

How long can these boxes model in a humid store?

It relies on the humidity, the board, and the pack stacked on top. A painted box lasts longer than a simple one, but no board is new forever. Provide us with the storage time and requirements, and we'll suggest a reasonable spec.

Does a barrier layer change how the box reclaims?

Water based layers reclaim with cardboard. Wax and plastic films are harder to process. If recycling cases to your customers, we can point you towards finishes that support the box standing simple to reclaim.

Can I maintain my current box size and just add a border?

We take your existing sizes, then select a layer or lamination that conforms to the route. Sometimes the board grade requires a small change too, and we'll say so before you order.

Can you print support dry symbols on the box?

Control dry, this way up and fragile marks all print in the same run as your artwork. They support couriers and storage teams handle the box the way you want. Mention which ones you'd like when you request a quote.

Is a painted box nicer than wrapping the pallet in film?

They do various jobs. Pallet film protects the whole load from rain. A border on each box protects against damp that reaches through, like condensation or wet floors. Many customers use both for export.
