Think about what goes inside before you think about design. A bar, a tray of truffles, and a mixed selection each need a different box. Posted orders need extra protection. Shelf boxes don’t. A loose box looks cheap, and no artwork changes that.

We turn your brief into a dieline, the flat template of the box. It’s cut to your piece count and checked against the internal size before artwork goes on. If you also sell cakes or biscuits, our bakery and confectionery packaging covers those.
A light folding carton works for a chocolate bar. It prints well and stacks flat. Truffles and assorted chocolates are different because the pieces slide about, so they need an insert tray or dividers. And for gifts such as celebration packs and luxury boxes, our custom rigid boxes are thicker and heavier.

We check how the board folds and takes print before suggesting a finish. Most folding cartons use paperboard or kraft board. Gift boxes use thicker rigid board. A few other things worth knowing. Kraft board is brown and natural-looking, whereas white paperboard prints brighter colours. Pantone colours keep your brand shade the same on every reorder. Varnish and spot UV give a matt or gloss finish. Lamination can affect recycling, so ask us first.
Certain finishes make a box harder to recycle, so check with us before you pick one. Plastic lamination is a good example. These three terms mean different things. Recyclable means the box can go in household recycling. Recycled content means it’s made from recycled fibre. Compostable needs proper certification, and we don’t use the word without evidence. Before printing starts, we sign off a print proof against your colour references. If the chocolate touches the board, ask us about food-contact suitability before you approve the artwork.
