Excellent services! They helped us pick the right size, finish, and custom window shape. The boxes fit our brand perfectly, and the minimum order quantity was very reasonable for a new business.
A lip balm box only has so much surface to work with, and once the ingredient list, batch code, and responsible person details go on, there's barely room left for branding. Hale Path Packaging builds custom lip balm boxes for skincare brands, indie beauty labels, and gift retailers across the UK, sized around the tube or tin first, branding second.
Why do so many lip balm boxes come back from print with the ingredient list barely readable? Usually, it’s because the artwork gets finished first, and the compliance text gets squeezed in wherever it’s left over. Under UK Cosmetics Regulation, the INCI list, responsible person details, and batch code all have to meet a minimum font size, and on a box this small, that requirement eats into the available space a lot faster than most brands plan for, especially on stick or mini tin formats under 25mm wide.
A small skincare brand out of Bristol kept getting artwork bounced back by their compliance reviewer; the ingredient list was technically all there, just printed too small to actually read once it hit the box. Their old supplier had built the layout around the logo first and squeezed the text in after, which barely fit in a bigger box and completely failed on their new mini lip balm tin. We rebuilt the template starting from the minimum font size requirement, then fit the branding around it instead of the other way round.
Compliance checks stopped bouncing back after that, and the brand hasn’t had to touch the layout since launch.

A box that fails a compliance check costs a brand more in delayed stock and reprint fees than a properly planned layout ever would, which is why Hale Path Packaging starts every small-format job with the label requirements, not the design brief. We supply skincare brands in Bristol, indie beauty labels in Leeds, and gift retailers in Edinburgh with custom lip balm boxes built to pass compliance on the first print run. Our small-format packaging guide’s worth a look if you’re still working out how much text your box actually needs to carry.
We also produce:
Board weight versus print density is where most lip balm box issues actually start. A lighter board with a dense label layout can end up looking cramped and flimsy at once, especially on anything under 40mm wide. So what actually decides whether the box holds up on the shelf and still reads clearly? Comes down to testing the real label copy against the box dimensions before the board weight gets locked in, not adjusting the text later to fit whatever board was already chosen.
Hale Path Packaging has spent years designing small-format cosmetic packaging for skincare and beauty brands right across the UK.

We ordered 2000 packs for our business. The turnaround time was fast, the packaging was strong, and no damage during shipping. We’ve made them our go-to packaging partner.

A bit, mainly because of the tighter tolerances small-format printing needs. But it's a small add-on against what a reprint costs once a batch fails a compliance check.
It does, yes. Ingredient list, responsible person details, and batch code all need a minimum font size and the correct placement, no different from any other cosmetic sold in the UK.
Kraft and responsibly sourced board options are both available, and most lip balm boxes don't need plastic lamination to hold up, so going recyclable usually isn't a big trade-off.
Depends on the product, really, slim stick sizes start around 20x20x70mm, going up to tin or pot formats closer to 60x60x25mm. Every box gets built tight to the actual item, not a generic template.
Usually around 500 units for a first run. Smaller test batches can sometimes be arranged too, especially for brands launching a new scent or formula and wanting to try it first.
CLP mostly applies to cosmetics with hazard classifications, which most lip balms fall outside of, but we still check the formula against CLP requirements before finalising label layout, just in case.
Typically, 2 to 3 weeks from approved artwork to delivery, with faster turnaround available for brands working to a launch deadline.
Yes, a small window works fine as long as it's placed clear of the mandatory label text, usually on the side or top panel rather than where the INCI list sits, so nothing overlaps.
